This month finds Emmanuel Villaume in New York where he conducts Cendrillon at the Juilliard School. These three performances of Massenet’s opera based on the popular fairy tale mark the second of the composer’s works that Emmanuel has conducted this year: Earlier this winter, he led an acclaimed revival of Manon at the Royal Opera House.
Emmanuel conducts a cast that features Julia Bullock in the title role with Lacey Jo Benter as Prince Charmant and Elizabeth Sutphen as La Fée, accompanied by the Juilliard Orchestra. The French maestro most recently appeared with Juilliard’s musicians when he conducted what the New York Times described as a “detailed, energetic and stirring rendition” of Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie along with Wagner’s Prelude to Lohengrin and Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été at Avery Fisher Hall in 2012.
