French conductor Emmanuel Villaume conducts Bizet’s Carmen at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma June 18 through 28. Returning to the work that inaugurated his tenure last fall as the Dallas Opera’s music director, Emmanuel also reunites with Clementine Margaine, his titular femme fatale from Dallas, for this production.
Margaine alternates in the role with fellow mezzo-sopranos Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Giuseppina Piunti. Trading off as Don José are tenors Dmytro Popov and Andeka Gorrotxategui. Kyle Ketelsen and Simon Orfila sing Escamillo, and Micaëla is performed by both Eleonora Buratto and Erika Grimaldi. The production is helmed by Emilio Sagi.
