Emmanuel Villaume’s season-closing performances of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta at the Dallas Opera have earned the company’s Music Director acclaim for “a convincing read… [that communicated] the piece’s bold themes so effectively and with such a clear grasp of its larger structure and shape,” according to D Magazine.

The Dallas Morning News added, “the orchestra played splendidly for music director Emmanuel Villaume,” while Theater Jones wrote: “While his preparation is always meticulous and full of details, it is apparent that this score is something special for [Villaume]. Every motion he makes results in a thoughtful musical event and his communication with the orchestra is complete. They respond splendidly.”

“Villaume displayed full control of the score and the orchestra with incredible sensitivity to underscoring Tchaikovsky’s musical motifs,” concluded OperaPulse, which described the production as “a brilliant ending to a wonderful 2014-2015 season.”
